Where there’s a Need, there’s a Lion!
Over the past few weeks, we’ve all been devastated to see the images coming from our neighbors in South Texas and witnessing the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey & torrential flooding. But it’s time like these when Lions step up & help wherever needed. Immediately, Lions Clubs International, through our Foundation (LCIF), responded with an emergency catastrophe grant in the amount of US$100,000 to be distributed through local clubs. The grant allows Lions in the area of impact to provide life-saving supplies of food, water, blankets and other necessities. Your generous donations to LCIF enable them to respond so quickly. So, thanks!!
Locally, volunteers from all around District 2X-1 stepped up to help at the volunteer reception center (VRC) at the Dallas Convention Center. Many of our club members spent hours at the Evacuation Center assisting with the check-in process. The need is still large and the center will probably be on-going for a couple of months. Any Lion & other willing individual can volunteer at the center. For non-Lions (18 & Over), please sign up via www.voly.org and go through the process to be approved to volunteer.
Please understand that the VRC needs twenty-seven Lions each day to work the Center. Please consider helping out when available. Lion Roy is coordinating the schedule. Contact him at lionroy@mail.com or at (817) 584-0843
